Learning a Trade Online

Horn Lake MS student attending online vocational programOnline schools have become more attractive with Horn Lake MS students and more and more accredited programs are being offered. While online learning is a readily available and practical way to acquire a certificate or degree, it may not be the ideal option for every vocation or trade. For example, training to operate a semi truck is not something that you can accomplish online, nor is learning how to weld. These are skills that need to be learned through hands on training and by doing it, not by studying or watching videos. But certain components of the training may be appropriate for online classes, for example studying safety and driving regulations for truck driving schools or learning about metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welder schools. A number of programs will blend online education with on-campus practical training, for example for electrician or welding schools. So it is very important to ask before choosing an online program for any vocation if there is a suitable amount of hands-on training allocated to the syllabus. One way to help establish est that a trade school program is both appropriate for online studying and delivers comprehensive practical training is to check that it’s accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency (more on accreditation later). For those vocations that are suitable for online training, it can be a practical way for students with time constraints to acquire a new vocation.
