But with numerous vocational schools to pick from, just how do you go about identifying the right one? Not only do you need to make sure that you will obtain the comprehensive training required to succeed in your new field, but also that the school is reputable and well regarded. Many students make the mistake of enrolling in a trade school simply because the campus is closest to their residence or place of employment. Others may be attracted to the one that has the lowest tuition. Of course the cost and location of the training are critical factors when assessing vocational school options, but they can not be the only ones. Additional considerations including accreditation and the reputation of the schools are critical also. So before you begin evaluating and comparing trade schools, you must know what questions you should be asking in order to get the information to make a final choice. We will review some of those questions later in this post. But to start with, let’s talk about a few of the trade options that are available including the availability of online programs.

Trade Schools Online

Lost Springs KS student attending online vocational programSchools available online have become very popular with Lost Springs KS students and more and more accredited programs are being offered. Even though online learning is a readily available and practical way to earn a certificate or degree, it may not be the ideal option for all trades or vocations. For example, learning to drive a semi truck is not something that you can accomplish online, nor is learning how to weld. These are skills that must be acquired through hands on training and by doing it, not by studying or watching videos. But certain aspects of the training can be appropriate for online training, such as studying driving and safety regulations for truck driving schools or studying metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welding schools. Many programs will combine online education with on campus lab work, such as for HVAC or plumbing schools. So it is very important to determine before choosing an online school for any vocation if there is a suitable amount of practical training allocated to the curriculum. One means to help ensure that a trade school program is both suitable for online education and delivers comprehensive practical training is to verify that it’s accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting organization (more on accreditation later). For those vocations that are suitable for training online, it can be a practical way for individuals with limited time to acquire a new trade.

Concerns to Ask Vocational Schools

Questions to ask Lost Springs KS trade schoolsAs soon as you have picked the trade and type of degree or certificate that you want to attain, either online or on campus, you can begin to decrease your selection of schools. As you are probably aware, there are numerous technical schools in the  Lost Springs KS area and throughout the United States to select from. That’s why it is imperative to have a list of key qualifications when making school comparisons. As earlier stated in our opening paragraph, location and tuition will undoubtedly be the first two factors you will consider. Following are some additional ones that you should explore before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accredited.  A large number of Lost Springs KS area trade programs have earned either a regional or a national accreditation. They may acquire Institutional Accreditation, which involves the school’s programs as a whole, or Programmatic Accreditation, which relates to a specific program, such as HVAC technology. Verify that the school and program are accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting agency, which includes the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Along with helping make certain that you acquire a quality education, it can assist in acquiring financial aid or student loans, which are frequently unavailable for non-accredited programs. Furthermore, many states mandate that the  training program be accredited in order to be approved for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Operation? One clue to help evaluate the quality of a trade school near Lost Springs KS is how long it has been in business. A negatively ranked or a fly by night school normally will not be in business very long, so longevity is a big plus. However, even the best of schools had to start from their opening day of training, so use it as one of several qualifiers.

Completion Rates.  Ask the trade schools you are looking at what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the percentage of students who enroll in and finish the course. A lower completion rate may suggest that students were unhappy with the course and dropped out. It might also signify that the instructors were not competent to instruct the students. It’s also essential that the schools have high job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a broader directory of alumni, which may produce more contacts for the school to employ for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate can not only validate that the school has a good reputation within the trade, but also that it has the network of contacts to help grads obtain apprenticeships or employment in the Lost Springs KS area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  Numerous trade programs are taught together with an internship or an apprenticeship program. Those participating vocational and technical schools will help place you in an apprenticeship program inside their network of contractors or labor unions. Check if the schools you are reviewing have referring relationships with Lost Springs KS area contractors in the field. An apprenticeship not only offers a valuable experience by supplying practical training, but it also supplies employment opportunities and helps to establish relationships in the area professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Make sure that the campus facilities and the equipment that you will be instructed on are state-of-the-art and what you will be working with in the field. If you are currently in an internship or an apprenticeship, check with the tech you are working under concerning what you should be looking for. If not, ask a local Lost Springs KS contractor if they can provide some suggestions. Additionally keep in mind that unless you are willing to move, the school needs to be within driving distance of your residence. Take note that if you decide to attend an out-of-state school, besides the added moving costs there might be higher tuition charges compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s important that you get as much personalized instruction as possible, which can be difficult in larger classes. Ask if you can sit in on some of the classes so that you can observe how big they are and witness first hand the interaction between teachers and students. Talk with a few of the students and get their comments concerning class sizes and instruction. Finally, speak to a few of the teachers and find out what their level of experience is in Kansas and what certifications or degrees they hold.

Flexible Scheduling.  Confirm that the class schedules for the schools you are assessing are flexible enough to meet your needs. If you can only attend classes in the evening or on weekends near Lost Springs KS, check that the schools you are considering offer those choices. If you can only attend part-time, make certain that the school you select permits part-time enrollment. Also, find out what the policy is to make-up classes should you miss any due to work, sickness or family emergencies.

    Lost Springs, Kansas

For many millennia, the Great Plains of North America was inhabited by nomadic Native Americans. From the 16th century to 18th century, the Kingdom of France claimed ownership of large parts of North America. In 1762, after the French and Indian War, France secretly ceded New France to Spain, per the Treaty of Fontainebleau.

In 1802, Spain returned most of the land to France. In 1803, most of the land for modern day Kansas was acquired by the United States from France as part of the 828,000 square mile Louisiana Purchase for 2.83 cents per acre.

From the 1820s to the 1870s, one of the most significant land routes in the United States was the Santa Fe Trail. The "Lost Spring" was one of the favorite camping spots on the Santa Fe Trail because it generally had an ample supply of good water. It was located 15 miles west of Diamond Spring, which was a day's travel for a wagon train. The spring apparently got its name because it is a periodic spring, drying up at times for a week, a month, or even two years, so those visiting the site sometimes could not locate the spring on a return trip. A stage station was set up nearby in 1859 and was known as the Lost Springs Station, but no visible evidence remains of the station.[9] The trail was active across Marion County from 1821 to 1866.[10]
