Learning a Vocation Online

Artie WV student attending online vocational programOnline schools have become very popular with Artie WV students and more and more accredited programs are becoming available. Even though online learning is a readily available and practical way to acquire a certificate or degree, it might not be the best option for all trades or vocations. For instance, learning to operate a semi truck is not something that you can accomplish online, nor is training how to weld. These are skills that need to be mastered through practical training and by doing it, not by studying or watching videos. But certain elements of the training may be suitable for online learning, for instance studying safety and driving guidelines for trucking schools or studying metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welder schools. A number of programs will incorporate online instruction with on-campus lab work, for example for electrician or welding schools. So it is crucial to find out before choosing an online program for any vocation if there is an appropriate amount of practical training devoted to the syllabus. One way to help establish est that a trade school program is both suitable for online education and provides in-depth hands-on training is to check that it’s accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency (more on accreditation later). For those trades that are suitable for training online, it can be a practical way for those with limited time to acquire a new profession.

What to Ask Trade School Programs

Questions to ask Artie WV trade schoolsOnce you have selected the vocation and type of certificate or degree that you would like to attain, either on campus or online, you can begin to decrease your list of schools. As you are probably aware, there are numerous vocational schools in the  Artie WV area and across the United States to select from. That’s why it is imperative to have a checklist of important qualifiers when making school evaluations. As earlier mentioned in our opening paragraph, tuition and location will most likely be the first two aspects you will look at. Following are several additional ones that you need to explore before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accredited.  Numerous Artie WV area trade schools have attained either a regional or a national accreditation. They can earn Institutional Accreditation, which involves the school’s programs as a whole, or Programmatic Accreditation, which pertains to an individual program, for example HVAC technology. Verify that the program is accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting organization, which includes the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Along with helping make certain that you get an excellent education, it may assist in obtaining financial aid or student loans, which are often unavailable for non-accredited schools. Furthermore, some states mandate that the  training program be accredited in order to qualify for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Operation? One clue to help evaluate the quality of a vocational school near Artie WV is how long it has been in business. A negatively ranked or a fly by night school normally will not be in business very long, so longevity is a big plus. On the other hand, even the best of schools had to start from their opening day of training, so consider it as one of multiple qualifications.

Completion Rates.  Ask the trade schools you are considering what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the percentage or portion of students who enroll in and complete the course. A low completion rate may indicate that students were dissatisfied with the program and dropped out. It might also suggest that the teachers were not competent to instruct the students. It’s also essential that the schools have higher job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a more extensive directory of graduates, which can result in more contacts for the school to utilize for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate can not only validate that the school has a good reputation within the trade, but also that it has the network of contacts to help students secure apprenticeships or jobs in the Artie WV area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  A large number of training programs are taught in conjunction with an internship or an apprenticeship program. Those participating vocational and trade schools will help place you in an apprenticeship program within their network of contractors or trade unions. Check if the schools you are comparing have working partnerships with Artie WV area contractors in the field. An apprenticeship not only provides a rewarding experience by furnishing hands-on training, but it also provides job opportunities and helps to form relationships in the area professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Make sure that the campus facilities and the equipment that you will be trained on are up-to-date and what you will be using on the job. If you are currently in an internship or an apprenticeship, talk to the tech you are working with regarding what you should be looking for. If not, ask a local Artie WV company if they can provide some suggestions. Also keep in mind that unless you are willing to relocate, the school must be within driving distance of your residence. Remember that if you decide to enroll in an out-of-state school, besides the added moving costs there may be increased tuition fees compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s desirable that you get as much individualized training as possible, which can be difficult in bigger classes. Ask if you can sit in on a couple of the classes so that you can observe how large they are and experience the interaction between students and teachers. Talk to a few of the students and get their feedback relating to class sizes and instruction. Last, talk to a few of the teachers and learn what their level of experience is in West Virginia and what certifications or degrees they hold.

Flexible Scheduling.  Verify that the class schedules for the programs you are assessing are flexible enough to fulfill your needs. If you are only able to attend classes at night or on weekends near Artie WV, confirm that the programs you are considering provide those choices. If you can only attend part-time, make sure that the school you select permits part-time enrollment. Finally, find out what the protocol is to make-up classes should you miss any due to work, sickness or family issues.

    Goodstock Music Festival

The Goodstock Music Festival took place in 2007 as a tribute to the original Woodstock Festival of 1969. Goodstock was founded and supported by Larry McClurg and Artie Kornfeld. McClurg is a veteran of the rock/Christian band Mind Garage. Artie Kornfeld is renowned in the music industry as a songwriter, manager, producer, and an original co-creator of Woodstock '69.[1] On the concept of Goodstock, McClurg said, "This is not an attempt to go back, re-create or re-visit. It is a new 'happening' and an opportunity for the whole family to experience a re-awakening of the ideals of peace and togetherness through music."[2] Kornfeld commented on his own enthusiasm of the musical revival: "Over the years since 1969 there have been attempts to recreate Woodstock. They had the acts and the stage but they did not have the Goodstock 2007 feeling of reliving a moment when all good came together through music as one ... I consider Goodstock to be the first real attempt to have another 3 days of peace and music. I feel magic again."[2]

The original band lineup included headliners such as Jefferson Starship, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Iron Butterfly, Sky Saxon and The Seeds, and Mind Garage. Goodstock was mentioned in Rolling Stone,[3] and its internet promotion attracted audiences from as far away as England.[4] Grass-roots promotional campaigns also sprung up in South America, Asia, and Australia.[5]

The music festival was held July 19–21, 2007 at the Good Evening Ranch in Summersville, West Virginia. At the last minute, several of the headlining bands dropped out, leaving only Mind Garage and Sky Saxon and The Seeds to headline. The rest of the music was supplied by local and regional bands.[4]
