Online Trade Schools

Redrock NM student attending online vocational programSchools available online have become very popular with Redrock NM students and increasingly more accredited programs are becoming available. Although online learning is a very convenient and accessible way to acquire a degree or certificate, it may not be the best option for every vocation or trade. For example, learning to operate a semi truck is not something that you can do online, nor is learning how to weld. These are skills that have to be acquired through hands on training and by doing it, not by reading about it or watching videos. But certain components of the training can be appropriate for online training, for instance studying driving and safety regulations for truck driving schools or studying metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welding schools. A number of programs will blend online education with on-campus practical training, such as for HVAC or plumbing schools. So it is crucial to determine before choosing an online school for any vocation if there is an appropriate amount of practical training devoted to the curriculum. One means to help establish est that a trade school program is both suitable for online studying and provides comprehensive hands-on training is to confirm that it’s accredited by a nationally acknowledged accrediting organization (more on accreditation later). For those vocations that are suitable for training online, it can be a convenient way for individuals with time constraints to acquire a new profession.

They can earn Institutional Accreditation, which focuses on the school’s programs overall, or Programmatic Accreditation, which relates to a specific program, for example HVAC technology.  Completion Rates.  Ask the trade schools you are considering what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the portion or percentage of students who enroll in and complete the course. A lower completion rate may indicate that students were unhappy with the program and dropped out. It could also indicate that the instructors were not qualified to train the students. It’s also imperative that the schools have higher job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a broader directory of graduates, which can produce more contacts for the school to utilize for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate will not only confirm that the school has a good reputation within the industry, but additionally that it has the network of contacts to assist graduates obtain apprenticeships or employment in the Redrock NM area.

An apprenticeship not only provides a rewarding experience by supplying practical training, but it also supplies job opportunities and helps to establish relationships in the area professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Make certain that the campus facilities and the equipment that you will be trained on are state-of-the-art and what you will be using in the field. If you are currently in an internship or an apprenticeship, check with the specialist you are working with concerning what you should be expecting. Otherwise, ask a local Redrock NM contractor if they can give you some suggestions. Also keep in mind that unless you are willing to move, the school must be within commuting distance of your home. Remember that if you decide to attend an out-of-state school, besides the added relocation costs there can be increased tuition charges compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s important that you get as much one-on-one instruction as possible, which can be difficult in larger classes. Ask if you can monitor some of the classes so that you can see how big they are and witness first hand the interaction between students and teachers. Speak with some of the students and get their comments relating to class sizes and instruction. Finally, speak to some of the instructors and learn what their level of experience is in New Mexico and what degrees or certifications they hold.

Flexible Scheduling.  Confirm that the class schedules for the programs you are assessing are flexible enough to handle your needs. If you are only able to go to classes at night or on weekends near Redrock NM, confirm that the programs you are comparing offer those options. If you can only attend part-time, be sure that the school you select permits part-time enrollment. Additionally, ask what the protocol is to make-up classes should you miss any because of work, sickness or family issues.

Five rare plant species are found on the property, including spring blue-eyed Mary (Collinsia verna), fringed scorpion-weed (Phacelia fimbriata), and Carey saxifrage (Saxifraga careyana).[2]

The preserve is owned and maintained by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. It does not include improvements for public access, and visitors must make arrangements with a state-employed land steward prior to visiting.[2]
