But with so many trade schools to choose from, exactly how do you undertake locating the best one? Not only do you need to confirm that you will get the extensive training required to succeed in your new profession, but also that the school is highly regarded and reputable. Many students make the mistake of enrolling in a vocational school just because the campus is closest to their home or where the work. Or they may be attracted to the school that has the lowest tuition. Of course the location and cost of the training are critical considerations when assessing trade school options, but they must not be the only ones. Other considerations such as reputation and accreditation of the schools are critical as well. So prior to beginning your evaluations and comparing trade schools, you must know what questions to ask in order to get the information to make a final selection. We will cover several of those questions shortly in this article. But to start with, let’s look at a few of the vocation options that are offered including the accessibility of online programs.

For instance, perhaps you have always taken pleasure in working on your car and have thought about utilizing that talent to earn a living as an automotive tech. Or perhaps a family member has had a long and successful career in a particular trade or vocation and you would love to follow in her or his footsteps. Whatever your inspiration is for going into a trade, there is likely a program available that will provide the training that you require. Online Trade Schools

Passaic NJ student attending online vocational programSchools available online have become very popular with Passaic NJ students and increasingly more accredited programs are becoming available. While online learning is a readily available and practical way to acquire a degree or certificate, it may not be the best option for every vocation or trade. For instance, training to operate a tractor trailer is not something that you can accomplish online, nor is training how to weld. These are skills that have to be acquired through hands on training and by doing it, not by studying or watching videos. But certain elements of the training may be suitable for online learning, such as studying safety and driving guidelines for trucking schools or studying metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welder schools. Some programs will combine online education with on-campus practical training, such as for HVAC or plumbing schools. So it is very important to find out before choosing an online program for any trade if there is an appropriate amount of hands-on training devoted to the curriculum. One way to help ensure that a trade school program is both suitable for online education and provides in-depth practical training is to confirm that it’s accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting organization (more on accreditation later). For those trades that are suitable for online training, it can be a convenient way for individuals with limited time to learn a new trade.

Concerns to Ask Trade School Programs

Questions to ask Passaic NJ trade schoolsAfter you have picked the trade and type of certificate or degree that you would like to attain, either on campus or online, you can begin to narrow down your list of schools. As you are no doubt aware, there are a large number of vocational schools in the  Passaic NJ area and throughout the USA to choose from. That’s why it is imperative to have a list of important qualifiers when making school evaluations. As earlier mentioned in our opening paragraph, tuition and location will undoubtedly be the initial 2 aspects you will look at. Following are some additional ones that you will want to investigate before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accredited.  Many Passaic NJ area technical programs have earned either a regional or a national accreditation. They can attain Institutional Accreditation, which focuses on the school’s programs overall, or Programmatic Accreditation, which pertains to a specific program, for example HVAC technology. Confirm that the school and program are accredited by a U.S. Department of Education acknowledged accrediting organization, such as the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Along with helping ensure that you obtain a superior education, it can help in acquiring financial assistance or student loans, which are often unavailable for non-accredited programs. Additionally, a number of states mandate that the  training program be accredited in order to qualify for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Operation? One indicator to help determine the quality of a vocational school near Passaic NJ is how long it has been in business. A poorly reviewed or a fly by night school usually will not be in business very long, so longevity is a big plus. Having said that, even the top schools had to begin from their opening day of training, so consider it as one of multiple qualifications.

Completion Rates.  Ask the tech schools you are considering what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the portion or percentage of students who enroll in and finish the course. A lower completion rate could indicate that students were unhappy with the program and quit. It may also indicate that the instructors were not competent to instruct the students. It’s similarly important that the schools have high job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a more extensive list of alumni, which can mean more contacts for the school to use for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate can not only confirm that the school has an excellent reputation within the trade, but additionally that it has the network of contacts to assist graduates acquire apprenticeships or jobs in the Passaic NJ area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  Most vocational programs are taught in conjunction with an internship or an apprenticeship program. Those participating trade and vocational schools will help place you in an apprenticeship program within their network of companies or trade unions. Ask if the schools you are comparing have working partnerships with Passaic NJ area specialists in the field. An apprenticeship not only offers a rewarding experience by supplying hands-on training, but it also provides job opportunities and helps to establish relationships in the area professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Make certain that the campus facilities and the tools that you will be instructed on are state-of-the-art and what you will be using on the job. If you are currently in an internship or an apprenticeship, talk to the tech you are working with concerning what you should be expecting. Otherwise, ask a local Passaic NJ contracting company if they can give you some pointers. Also keep in mind that unless you are willing to move, the school must be within driving distance of your home. Remember that if you decide to attend an out-of-state school, besides the added moving costs there might be higher tuition fees compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s desirable that you receive as much one-on-one instruction as possible, which can be difficult in larger classes. Ask if you can monitor some of the classes so that you can see how large they are and witness first hand the interaction between students and instructors. Talk to several of the students and get their feedback regarding class sizes and instruction. Finally, speak to some of the instructors and learn what their level of experience is in New Jersey and what degrees or certifications they hold.

Flexible Scheduling.  Verify that the class schedules for the programs you are reviewing are flexible enough to meet your needs. If you are only able to attend classes in the evening or on weekends near Passaic NJ, check that the programs you are comparing offer those options. If you can only attend on a part-time basis, make certain that the school you select allows part-time enrollment. Additionally, check out what the protocol is to make-up classes should you miss any due to work, illness or family emergencies.

    Passaic, New Jersey

Passaic (/pəˈseɪ.ɪk/ pə-SAY-ik[20] or locally /pəˈseɪk/ pə-SAYK[21]) is a city in Passaic County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a total population of 69,781,[8][10][11] maintaining its status as the 15th largest municipality in New Jersey with an increase of 1,920 residents (+2.8%) from the 2000 Census population of 67,861,[9] which had in turn increased by 9,820 (+16.9%) from the 58,041 counted in the 1990 Census.[22] Passaic is the tenth most densely populated municipality in the entire United States with 22,000+ people per square mile.

Located north of Newark on the Passaic River, it was first settled in 1678 by Dutch traders, as Acquackanonk Township. The city and river draw their name from the Lenape word "pahsayèk" which has been variously attributed to mean "valley" or "place where the land splits."[23][24][25][26]

The city originated from a Dutch settlement on the Passaic River established in 1679 which was called Acquackanonk. Industrial growth began in the 19th century, as Passaic became a textile and metalworking center.
