However with so many vocational schools to pick from, exactly how do you approach finding the ideal one? Not only do you need to make sure that you will obtain the comprehensive training needed to be successful in your new field, but also that the school is highly regarded and reputable. Some prospective students make the mistake of enrolling in a trade school simply because the campus is nearest to their residence or place of employment. Others may be attracted to the school that has the lowest tuition. Naturally the location and cost of the training are important considerations when analyzing trade school options, but they should not be the only ones. Other considerations including accreditation and the reputation of the schools are important as well. So before you begin evaluating and comparing trade schools, you will need to know what questions to ask so you can get the information to make a final choice. We will cover several of those questions later in this article. But first, let’s look at a few of the vocation options that are offered as well as the availability of online programs.

Online Vocational Schools

Cliffside Park NJ student attending online vocational programOnline schools have become very popular with Cliffside Park NJ students and increasingly more accredited programs are becoming available. Although online learning is a very convenient and accessible way to acquire a degree or certificate, it might not be the best option for all trades or vocations. For example, learning to drive a semi truck is not something that you can accomplish online, nor is learning how to weld. These are skills that must be acquired through practical training and by doing it, not by reading about it or watching videos. But certain aspects of the training may be appropriate for online classes, such as learning driving and safety guidelines for truck driving schools or studying metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welding schools. A number of programs will incorporate online instruction with on campus practical training, such as for HVAC or plumbing schools. So it is very important to find out before choosing an online program for any vocation if there is a suitable amount of hands-on training allocated to the curriculum. One way to help establish est that a vocational school program is both suitable for online studying and delivers comprehensive practical training is to confirm that it’s accredited by a nationally acknowledged accrediting agency (more on accreditation later). For those vocations that are suitable for online training, it can be a practical way for students with time constraints to acquire a new profession.

Points to Ask Trade School Programs

Questions to ask Cliffside Park NJ trade schoolsAs soon as you have chosen the vocation and type of certificate or degree that you wish to earn, either on campus or online, you can begin to narrow down your selection of schools. As you are probably aware, there are many technical schools in the  Cliffside Park NJ area and across the Country to pick from. That’s why it is essential to have a list of important qualifications when making school assessments. As earlier mentioned in our opening paragraph, tuition and location will undoubtedly be the initial 2 variables you will consider. Following are some additional ones that you need to explore before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accreditation.  Numerous Cliffside Park NJ area trade programs have earned either a regional or a national accreditation. They can attain Institutional Accreditation, which involves the school’s programs overall, or Programmatic Accreditation, which relates to a specific program, for instance HVAC technology. Confirm that the school and program are accredited by a U.S. Department of Education acknowledged accrediting agency, which includes the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Along with helping make certain that you get a quality education, it can assist in securing financial assistance or student loans, which are often unavailable for non-accredited programs. Also, many states mandate that the  training program be accredited in order to qualify for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Business? One indicator to help assess the quality of a trade school near Cliffside Park NJ is how long it has been in operation. A poorly rated or a fly by night school typically will not stay in business very long, so longevity is a big plus. However, even the top schools had to start from their first day of training, so use it as one of several qualifiers.

Completion Rates.  Ask the tech schools you are considering what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the percentage of students who enroll in and finish the course. A lower completion rate might indicate that students were disappointed with the program and dropped out. It might also indicate that the instructors were not competent to instruct the students. It’s similarly important that the schools have high job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a more extensive list of alumni, which can mean more contacts for the school to use for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate will not only validate that the school has a good reputation within the field, but also that it has the network of contacts to help graduates secure apprenticeships or jobs in the Cliffside Park NJ area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  Numerous trade programs are taught together with an internship or an apprenticeship program. Those participating trade and technical programs will help place you in an apprenticeship program inside their network of businesses or labor unions. Find out if the schools you are comparing have referring relationships with Cliffside Park NJ area companies in the field. An apprenticeship not only provides a rewarding experience by providing hands-on training, but it also furnishes job opportunities and helps to form relationships in the regional professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Confirm that the school facilities and the equipment that you will be trained on are up-to-date and what you will be using on the job. If you are currently in an internship or an apprenticeship, consult with the tech you are working with concerning what you should be looking for. Otherwise, ask a local Cliffside Park NJ company if they can give you some suggestions. Also bear in mind that unless you are able to relocate, the school must be within driving distance of your home. Remember that if you decide to attend an out-of-state school, in addition to relocation costs there can be increased tuition charges compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s desirable that you get as much personalized instruction as possible, which can be difficult in bigger classes. Ask if you can sit in on a few of the classes so that you can observe how large they are and experience the interaction between students and instructors. Talk to a few of the students and get their opinions relating to class sizes and instruction. Last, talk with some of the teachers and find out what their level of experience is in New Jersey and what certifications or degrees they hold.

Flexible Scheduling.  Verify that the class schedules for the programs you are reviewing are flexible enough to handle your needs. If you are only able to attend classes at night or on weekends near Cliffside Park NJ, check that the programs you are looking at provide those options. If you can only attend part-time, make sure that the school you select allows part-time enrollment. Additionally, find out what the policy is to make-up classes should you miss any due to work, sickness or family emergencies.

    Cliffside Park, New Jersey

Cliffside Park is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 23,594,[8][9][10] reflecting an increase of 587 (+2.6%) from the 23,007 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 2,614 (+12.8%) from the 20,393 counted in the 1990 Census.[19]

Cliffside Park was formed based on the results of a referendum held on January 15, 1895, from portions of Ridgefield Township.[20][21] The borough was formed during the "Boroughitis" phenomenon then sweeping through Bergen County, as of one two boroughs created in 1895 after 26 boroughs were formed in the county in 1894 alone.[22] The borough was named for its location as a "Park by the Cliffs".[23]

U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg resided in the borough until his death in 2013. Cliffside Park was home to the former Palisades Amusement Park, part of which was located in adjoining Fort Lee. The 38-acre (15 ha) park operated from 1898 until 1971, remaining one of the most-visited amusement parks in the country until its closure, after which the rides and attractions were removed and the site replaced by high-rise apartment buildings.[24]
