Online Vocational Schools

Moccasin MT student attending online vocational programSchools available online have become very popular with Moccasin MT students and increasingly more accredited programs are becoming available. Even though online learning is a readily available and practical way to obtain a certificate or degree, it might not be the ideal option for every vocation or trade. For example, training to operate a semi truck is not something that you can accomplish online, nor is training how to weld. These are skills that need to be mastered through practical training and by doing it, not by reading about it or watching videos. But certain elements of the training may be appropriate for online learning, for example learning driving and safety regulations for trucking schools or studying metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welder schools. A number of programs will combine online education with on-campus practical training, for example for HVAC or plumbing schools. So it is very important to find out before enrolling in an online school for any vocation if there is a suitable amount of hands-on training devoted to the curriculum. One way to help establish est that a trade school program is both appropriate for online education and delivers in-depth hands-on training is to verify that it’s accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting organization (more on accreditation later). For those vocations that are appropriate for online training, it can be a practical way for students with time constraints to acquire a new trade.

Questions to Ask Vocational Schools

Questions to ask Moccasin MT trade schoolsAfter you have chosen the trade and type of degree or certificate that you desire to obtain, either online or on campus, you can begin to narrow down your selection of schools. As you are certainly aware, there are many trade schools in the  Moccasin MT area and throughout the United States to pick from. That’s why it is essential to have a list of relevant qualifications when making school assessments. As formerly stated in our opening paragraph, location and tuition will most likely be the initial two aspects you will take into consideration. Following are some additional ones that you will want to explore before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accredited.  Numerous Moccasin MT area trade schools have earned either a regional or a national accreditation. They may acquire Institutional Accreditation, which involves the school’s programs overall, or Programmatic Accreditation, which pertains to a specific program, for instance HVAC technology. Make sure that the program is accredited by a U.S. Department of Education acknowledged accrediting organization, for example the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. In addition to helping ensure that you receive an excellent education, it may help in acquiring financial aid or student loans, which are in many cases unavailable for non-accredited schools. Also, many states require that the  training program be accredited for it to qualify for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Business? One clue to help determine the quality of a vocational school near Moccasin MT is how long it has been in business. A poorly reviewed or a fly by night school typically will not stay in business very long, so longevity is a big plus. Having said that, even the top schools had to begin from their opening day of training, so use it as one of several qualifiers.

Completion Rates.  Ask the vocational schools you are considering what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the percentage or portion of students who enroll in and complete the course. A lower completion rate might suggest that students were dissatisfied with the course and quit. It could also mean that the teachers were not competent to instruct the students. It’s also important that the schools have higher job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a more extensive directory of alumni, which can mean more contacts for the school to employ for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate can not only affirm that the school has an excellent reputation within the industry, but also that it has the network of contacts to help graduates secure apprenticeships or jobs in the Moccasin MT area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  Numerous trade programs are taught together with an apprenticeship or an internship program. Those participating vocational and trade programs will help place you in an apprenticeship program within their network of contractors or labor unions. Find out if the schools you are reviewing have working partnerships with Moccasin MT area companies in the field. An apprenticeship not only provides a valuable experience by supplying hands-on training, but it also supplies job opportunities and helps to build relationships in the area professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Make sure that the campus facilities and the equipment that you will be trained on are up-to-date and what you will be working with in the field. If you are currently in an internship or an apprenticeship, consult with the technician you are working under regarding what you should be looking for. If not, ask a local Moccasin MT contractor if they can give you some pointers. Additionally keep in mind that unless you are willing to relocate, the school must be within commuting distance of your residence. Remember that if you decide to attend an out-of-state school, in addition to relocation costs there may be higher tuition fees compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s desirable that you get as much individualized instruction as possible, which can be difficult in larger classes. Ask if you can sit in on a couple of the classes so that you can see how big they are and experience the interaction between students and teachers. Speak to a few of the students and get their comments relating to class sizes and instruction. Finally, talk to a few of the instructors and find out what their level of experience is in Montana and what degrees or certifications they have earned.

Flexible Scheduling.  Make sure that the class schedules for the schools you are assessing are flexible enough to meet your needs. If you are only able to attend classes at night or on weekends near Moccasin MT, confirm that the schools you are looking at offer those options. If you can only attend part-time, make certain that the school you select allows part-time enrollment. Finally, find out what the protocol is to make-up classes should you miss any due to work, sickness or family issues.

    Moccasin, Montana

Moccasin is an unincorporated community in Judith Basin County, Montana, United States. The community was named for the nearby Moccasin mountain range.[1] Although it is unincorporated, Moccasin has a post office, with the ZIP code of 59462.[2]

The name of the town came from a nearby mountain range called the Moccasin Mountain range. The name of the mountains come from the look with densely forested lodge pole pine trees; the Native Americans thought they looked like moccasins, thus giving the mountains and the town a name.[3]

Moccasin has also been hit hard by devastating wildfires that struck the area in 1916, 1919, 1922, and 1955. The town never really recovered from the fires which burned an entire block of buildings.[3]
