Not only do you need to make sure that you will receive the complete training necessary to be successful in your new field, but also that the school is highly regarded and reputable. Online Vocational Schools

Brookhaven MS student attending online vocational programTrade Schools online have become very popular with Brookhaven MS students and more and more accredited programs are becoming available. While online learning is a very convenient and accessible way to obtain a degree or certificate, it might not be the best option for all trades or vocations. For instance, training to operate a tractor trailer is not something that you can accomplish online, nor is learning how to weld. These are skills that need to be acquired through practical training and by doing it, not by studying or watching videos. But certain elements of the training can be suitable for online education, for example studying safety and driving regulations for truck driving schools or learning about metallurgy or how to read blueprints for welding schools. Many programs will combine online education with on-campus practical training, for example for HVAC or plumbing schools. So it is very important to determine before enrolling in an online program for any vocation if there is an adequate amount of hands-on training devoted to the curriculum. One means to help ensure that a trade school program is both appropriate for online education and delivers comprehensive practical training is to confirm that it’s accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting organization (more on accreditation later). For those vocations that are appropriate for training online, it can be a convenient way for individuals with limited time to learn a new profession.

Points to Ask Vocational Schools

Questions to ask Brookhaven MS trade schoolsAs soon as you have chosen the vocation and type of certificate or degree that you wish to attain, either on campus or online, you can begin to decrease your selection of schools. As you are certainly aware, there are a large number of trade schools in the  Brookhaven MS area and throughout the USA to select from. That’s why it is imperative to have a checklist of relevant qualifications when making school comparisons. As formerly stated in our opening paragraph, tuition and location will probably be the initial 2 aspects you will take into consideration. Following are some additional ones that you should research before enrolling in your school of choice.

Accreditation.  Numerous Brookhaven MS area vocational schools have received either a regional or a national accreditation. They can acquire Institutional Accreditation, which involves the school’s programs as a whole, or Programmatic Accreditation, which pertains to a specific program, for instance HVAC technology. Confirm that the school and program are accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting agency, for example the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Along with helping ensure that you obtain a quality education, it may help in securing financial aid or student loans, which are often unavailable for non-accredited programs. Also, a number of states require that the  training course be accredited in order to be approved for licensing where applicable.

How Long in Business? One indicator to help assess the quality of a trade school near Brookhaven MS is how long it has been in operation. A poorly reviewed or a fly by night school normally will not stay in business very long, so longevity is a big plus. However, even the top schools had to start from their first day of training, so consider it as one of several qualifiers.

Completion Rates.  Ask the vocational schools you are looking at what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the percentage of students who enroll in and finish the course. A low completion rate could indicate that students were dissatisfied with the program and quit. It may also indicate that the teachers were not qualified to train the students. It’s also essential that the schools have higher job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a more extensive directory of alumni, which can produce more contacts for the school to utilize for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate will not only confirm that the school has an excellent reputation within the field, but additionally that it has the network of contacts to help students secure apprenticeships or employment in the Brookhaven MS area.

Apprenticeship Programs.  Most trade programs are taught along with an internship or an apprenticeship program. Those participating technical and vocational programs will help place you in an apprenticeship program within their network of companies or labor unions. Check if the schools you are comparing have referring relationships with Brookhaven MS area professionals in the trade. An apprenticeship not only offers a rewarding experience by supplying hands-on training, but it also supplies job opportunities and helps to build relationships in the area professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Make certain that the school facilities and the tools that you will be instructed on are up-to-date and what you will be working with in the field. If you are currently in an internship or an apprenticeship, talk to the technician you are working under regarding what you should be expecting. If not, ask a local Brookhaven MS contractor if they can provide some pointers. Also keep in mind that unless you are able to relocate, the school must be within commuting distance of your residence. Remember that if you decide to attend an out-of-state school, besides the added relocation costs there may be higher tuition charges compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s important that you get as much personalized instruction as possible, which can be difficult in bigger classes. Ask if you can monitor some of the classes so that you can see how big they are and witness first hand the interaction between students and teachers. Talk with some of the students and get their opinions concerning class sizes and instruction. Finally, speak to some of the instructors and find out what their level of experience is in Mississippi and what degrees or certifications they have earned.

Flexible Scheduling.  Verify that the class schedules for the programs you are evaluating are flexible enough to fulfill your needs. If you are only able to go to classes in the evening or on weekends near Brookhaven MS, confirm that the schools you are looking at offer those choices. If you can only attend part-time, make sure that the school you select permits part-time enrollment. Additionally, find out what the protocol is to make-up classes should you miss any due to work, sickness or family issues.

    Brookhaven, Mississippi

Brookhaven (/bruːˈkeɪvən/ broo-KAY-vən) is a small city in Lincoln County, Mississippi, United States, 60 miles south of the state capital of Jackson. The population was 12,520 at the 2010 U.S. Census. It is the county seat of Lincoln County.[3] It was named after the Town of Brookhaven, New York by founder Samuel Jayne in 1818.

During the Civil War, Brookhaven was briefly occupied at noon on April 29, 1863 by a raiding party of Union cavalry under the command of Colonel Benjamin Grierson. The Union force burned public buildings and destroyed the railroad.[5] This was rebuilt after the war.

In 1955, Lamar Smith, a U.S. civil rights figure, black farmer, World War I veteran and an organizer of black voter registration, was shot to death mid-day on the lawn of the county courthouse in Brookhaven.[7]
